When people ask how Chris and I met, we always say, “There’s a short version and a long version.” If you haven’t heard the long one yet, don’t worry — we love telling it and will happily give you the full saga another time. But for now, here’s the short version (which is still not that short).
Chris and I met at a Mura Masa concert at The Wiltern in 2017. I was supposed to go with my best friend Lindsay, but due to a mix-up on the date, I went alone. Shortly after I got there and found a spot to stand, Chris showed up with his roommates. I watched him as he made his way through the crowd, casually towering over every other guy in the room, eventually stopping right behind me. Throughout the show, I inched myself closer towards him until he finally asked me to dance, which we did until the concert ended.
Afterward, I joined him and his friends at a bar in Venice, where we continued talking, dancing, and having a perfect night until the bar closed. At the end of the night, Chris and his friends got a cab to head home, and as I reached in my purse to call an Uber, I realized my phone had been stolen. Not only did I not have a way to get home, I also realized that if Chris texted me, I would never see it.
The next morning, I got on my iPad to try and find Chris on Facebook so he wouldn’t think I was ghosting him—I luckily remembered his name because I had joked about how it was so generic compared to mine. I scrolled the search results until I spotted a photo of a very tall guy standing between two shorter friends and sent a friend request. Thankfully, he still checked his Facebook and messaged me there to exchange numbers (again) and keep talking.
Long distance was our first real challenge—while we both were in LA, I lived on the West Side and he lived on the East Side (trust us, it's worse than it sounds). We made it work thanks to the fact that we worked less than a mile from each other and planned our first date at a bar nearby called The Wellesbourne. A few months and many playlists, concerts, and amazing dinners later, we made it official.
Over the years, we met each other’s families, mixed friend groups, went on trips, and eventually moved in together in Echo Park (the East Side won). That apartment became the place where Chris proposed to me on November 23, 2024. Today, we live in Silver Lake with our four-year-old puppy, Billie, loving our life in LA and excited for wherever the rest of our story takes us.
